Margaret Thatcher’s Funeral Today – Some Thoughts

As someone who was growing up in England during the time of Thatcher’s reign, I remember seeing her on television displaying a very strong presence.  Despite some of her unpopular policies and the fact that my own family were not very well-off and quite socialist in their thinking, there’s no denying that she was a powerful and important influence across the world.  Her strength of character in itself was inspiring, and of course in politics this cannot be underestimated.  She upset people with some of her decisions, but that is unavoidable in most jobs, especially in that one.  Although I would probably have made some different decisions if I were in her place (and very likely some worse ones than she did!), I certainly have respect for the career she had.  People complaining about the public cost of the funeral and making judgements on her might well be missing the bigger picture, because the question will always remain for anyone who judges – how would you have done if you were in that position?
